Quality Matters

Design and Construction

From wallbeds to tables, all of our pieces are made to order ‘customer-specific’ furniture.

Many projects evolve from a customer sketch, photograph or an existing piece. Sometimes a showroom sample is exactly what a customer is looking for. Other times the design is completely original. Whatever the case may be, we can help you through the design process.

With the help of CAD and the wonder of email, the customer can be directly involved in the design process. This ensures that all of the design possibilities have been explored prior to the actual construction of the furniture. From wood species to finish color, hardware and glass, crown moldings and door styles, we can help visualize and choose the features that fit your project. This is a complimentary service provided by Furniture Design to ensure we deliver the perfect piece of furniture every time.

Once the design has been approved

The build begins

Selection of materials is the first step to a well made beautiful piece. Favorite species of wood include: walnut, alder, maple and cherry. Bamboo is also a great sustainable choice. We are very conscientious about the source of our materials and the logging practices at each mill. All veneers are layed up on a high-quality cross banded veneer core.

Matching up the sequence of veneer flitches from the mill goes a long way in the overall appearance of the finished piece.

All veneered panels are banded with 3/4″ hand clamped hardwood bandings. Assembly of components is done with a variety of methods from pocket/screw joinery to biscuit joinery. Drawer boxes are made with English dovetail joinery.

The finish is the first thing a person sees and feels when they experience a well-made piece of furniture. This step takes the longest amount of time in the shop. We often color match a new piece to an existing piece a customer may have. Final details may include hardware, art glass, lighting, power management, etc.
